Caution: Fake Phones

The publication of black market phones is popping up around us. It has happened recently at 11 August 2008 in Jakarta. Police confiscated around fourty five thousand of fake hand phones, these includes good and expensive phones of various trademarks such as Nokia, Sony Ericson, Samsung and some China phones. It is important to check your phones, its sad if you bought fake phones with the price of the original phones…

These phones are ready to be distributed and sold to other cities in Indonesia. The value of the phones reaches five billion. These phones are being remake thus making it looks new again. Other than cell phones, this factory which is know as PT Ali Sumber Jaya is producing accessories and the latest software for hand phones.

The owner named, Ali, was faking mobile phones. Firstly, he collected some used or unused phones that are already spoilt. These phones are phones of high demand in the society. After the phones are fixed, reinstalled and replaced with another casing, it is also sealed with fake seals which look almost exactly the same as the real ones. Later on, these fake phones are distributed with lower price as black market phones. The sales of these phones reach 500 million in a week with an approximate net income of 100 million.

These are some tips of how to check your phones:

  • The old seal of Nokia phone is a hologram with silver color.
  • The new seal of Nokia phone is a hologram with gold color on top and white below it.
  • Never accept any spoilt or broken seals.
  • It is recommended to buy phones from its official supplier shops like Nokia or Sony Ericson itself. It is more guarantied with the price a little higher.

How to check where your phones were made (only for GSM phones):

  • Firstly: type *#06#
  • The request will show 15 digits unique code of your phone.
  • If the seventh and eighth numbers of your phone are 02 or 20, it means that the phone is made from Asia with low quality.
  • If the seventh and eighth numbers of your phone are 08 or 80, it means that the phone is made from German with medium quality.
  • If the seventh and eighth numbers of your phone are 01 or 10, it means that the phone is made from Finland with good quality.
  • If the seventh and eighth numbers of your phone are 00, it means that the phone is made from France with the best quality.
  • If it is not any from the list above, that means the phone is unclear of where it was made.
